“Keep trying! Keep moving forward!”β£β£

We hear these supposedly positive messages all the time. I use them a lot to myself, kids, friends and clients a lot, too.β£β£

However, there are times those positive messages can be overwhelming, and make people exhausted for for achieving goals.β£

I was feeling absolutely swamped this morning with hundreds of things to do in 2 hours, thousands of things to do in a day, millions of things to do in a week. Just by thinking about them left me powerless and super stressed. I could not focus on a thing and could not keep going. β£β£

This is when I know I need to be kind to myself and pause everything (I used to push and push AND PUSH by snacking unnecessarily food...anyone?). β£β£
I gave myself a 30 minutes in nature, sat with all the overwhelming emotions, digested and absorbed them. I felt much better and decided to work on one “absolutely need to be done by noon today”. I gained clarity and I even had a chance to post this.β£β£

Sitting with difficult emotions is a lot harder than grabbing a donut, or an entire bag of chips.
But, if you keep eating to cover up the challenging emotions when your body is not hungry, you gain weight, it becomes harder to go to a gym (body shame, can’t keep up with a class, don’t know what to do in the intense environment, etc). Eating emotionally can lower our self-esteem, feel bad/ashamed and eat more to feel better - 10 minutes later, we feel guilty for letting our negative emotions win and eat those unhealthy foods that you body doesn't need. “I’m stuck, I feel powerless and worthless”, then you give up.

Does this sound familiar? β£β£

You had a chance to read my long-ish post, next time you feel like checking social media, go outside first, start walking, find a place to sit/stand in the nature (if you can, if not, under a tree, beside a flower, “fresher” air than you previously ere).
Give yourself permission to rest even for the length of time you used to read my post. β£β£
